Thank you for a great 40 days!! 

40 Days for Life New Orleans was a great success!  We are thankful for the following achievements of the campaign:

* 12 lives saved from abortion during the 40 days.
* All 480 hours covered in prayer by 2175 people.
* Over 25,000 prayer cards and flyers distributed in the GNO area.
* Many, many pro-lifers standing for life for their first time.

Cover 480 hours in prayer out at LA's largest abortion facility? They said it could not be done... but it seems like YOU had other ideas! Thank you for participating and being willing to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Keeping the Intensity Going

While 40 Days for Life is officially over, our efforts to spread the message of life must only increase. As Yvette Fouchi, our Vigil Coordinator, said at the Closing Celebration, every time there are no pro-lifers witnessing on the sidewalk, the abortion facility might as well put up a sign that says: "Here at the approval of the pro-life community."

We cannot let that happen.

We would like you and your church/group/friends to independently cover all the hours when the Ridgelake abortion facility is open (Tuesday-Saturday 8 am-5 pm). There are a number of groups that already cover certain hours within the week, but there are plenty of open spots. For example, your church might want to take every Wednesday from Noon-2 pm.

Yvette, the 40 DFL Vigil Coordinator, is maintaining a loose schedule so groups do not overlap, but this will be an independent effort (no sign-in box, etc). Please consider signing up and contact Yvette at 504-874-9225 or yfouchi@yahoo.com.

There are many other ways you can be involved, and we will continue to inform you of these efforts and events. Here are a few things to do now:

1. Please send  any digital pictures (bclapper@ prolifelouisiana.org) you took during the vigil or spreading the message of life in your church.

2. Get involved with New Orleans Right to Life (NORTL), the group that put on 40 Days for Life New Orleans.  Cal Peg Kenny at 504-834-5433 to find out how.

3. RSVP for this Saturday's Pro-Life Apologetics workshop.
We need to be more effective communicators of the message of life. This workshop will give you the tools to reasonably articulate the pro-life position.

-- Barrett Center at St. Catherine Church (corner of Bonnabel - Metairie Rd.)
-- $10 suggested donation for materials (this is not a Catholic event! Open to all.)

5. RSVP for next Saturday's Sidewalk Counseling workshop.
Want to go beyond 40 Days for Life and be a sidewalk counselor or prayer warrior outside the abortion facility? Attend this workshop with Yvette Fouchi, Vigil Coordinator of 40 DFL, to be equipped with the tools you need to be effective on the sidewalk.

Please keep the intensity going! No matter what happens , we must continue to be the people that change our culture from the bottom up!

The Kick-Off Rally was a great success.  We had 249 people of various Christian denominations gather to pray for an end to abortion in New Orleans.  To see all the pictures of the event, please visit our photo page on Flickr.

Our speakers included Cindy Collins of the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Slidell (right), Fr. James Marshall, S.J., Stacy Kramer of Anglicans for Life, and Pastor BIll Shanks.

What is 40 Days for Life New Orleans?

40 Days for Life, a nationally coordinated campaign, will be happening in New Orleans from September 24th - November 2nd. While it is primarily sponsored by New Orleans Right to Life, 40 Days for Life is a project of numerous pro-life people and groups.

From Sept. 24th to Nov. 2nd, New Orleans is holding a 40 Days for Life campaign, a national initiative that has generated lifesaving results in more than 80 cities. 40 Days for Life consists of three components:

• Prayer and Fasting: people of faith throughout our city joining in prayer and fasting for an end to abortion.
• Peaceful Vigil: a 40-day peaceful and legal public vigil outside outside Louisiana's largest abortion facility in Metairie near Lakeside Mall.
• Community Outreach: taking a positive pro-life message to every corner of our city through targeted outreach.

How can you or your community/church get involved?
